Biography
Barbara Nicolai is an
Assistant Professor in the Computer Information Systems and Information
Technology Department at Purdue University Calumet (CISIT). She joined
the CISIT Department at Purdue in 1998. She joined the faculty in
2000. Her professional experience includes over 30 years of business
experience in the areas of Database Modeling, both Relational and
Object-Oriented, Database Implementation, using Oracle, Powerbuilder/Sybase,
Natural/Adabase, and Access/SQL Server. Barbara worked as Manager of
Information Systems at University of Chicago Hospital where she was
responsible for all of the information systems for women and children.
She has earned a B.A. Organization Management, Calumet College of St.
Joseph, May, 1990, a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Computer
Information Systems from Purdue University Calumet, December, 1990, and
a M.S. in Education, Instructional Design with an emphasis in
Technology, December 1999. Her professional affiliations include:
American Association of University Women – 1993-1998, International
Oracle Database Users Group - Americas - 1993-present, Association of
Information Technology Professionals (AITP) – 2003, Association
for Information Technology, Special Interest Group on Education (EDSIG)
– 2003. She previously presented a paper at ISECON in 2001. Barbara
acted as faculty mentor for an Undergraduate Research Grant designing
database solution for a data survey problem for a University of Arizona
Research study in 2002. She acts as database consultant for the senior
project teams at Purdue University Calumet, CISIT Department. Barbara
has presented various poster sessions at Purdue University Calumet,
School city of Hammond, Indiana on the topic of Women In Technology.
Barbara is currently on the Women’s Studies Academic Advisory Committee
addressing the issue of Women in technology. Her research statement is
as follows: “My interests include one major area of study: Database
Modeling and Design. My Body of Knowledge has been developed through
professional work experience and academic degreed work. I am able to
apply and direct my knowledge of database with my passionate interest of
women in the technology field and women and children’s health care. I
combine these areas of interest to design and develop database models in
the research of women, children and health care, and government.” |
